Never suppress a generous impulse.

George Sweeting once said,  “Never suppress a generous impulse.”  That floated through my mind as a lap swimmer in the next lane was complaining about being in the lane next to the pool side.  “Why?” I thought.  All lanes seem the same to me.

I caught her attention and offered to switch lap lanes.  She was elated!  I quipped, “Everyone ought to be happy while we’re swimming!”  Every time I see her now, she thanks me profusely.

But how often do I not bother to respond to that generous impulse?  Or how often is that generous impulse acted on only with those we know, or could pat our back in return?  Let’s just take this day and act on each generous impulse.  And tomorrow we’ll have more.
