Widows who knew God
April 26, 2018
Many women in biblical times were not taught as men were. Yet two were knowledgable in God’s ways and His work in their word. Abigail and Mary, the mother of Jesus were both widowed. Both in their speech showed not just great knowledge of God’s word, but reverence for that word and God as their Lord. Abigail, I Samuel 25 reminded David, almost confronted the anointed king with God’s expectations of him. Mary’s song of praise, Luke 1: 46–56 showed her knowledge of God’s promises and her understanding of her role as Jesus mother.
Their example to us is that God wants to teach us. We can listen. Most of all, their examples show that more than belief is required. Courage to obey is a necessity.
