Why church?

Church has sure changed.  From the wooden pew I sat on with 6 other little girls, sisters and cousins, eating crackers to keep us quiet, to the large church where I worship today.  One question is always relevant:  Why do we ‘do church?’

Church has a purpose.  Evangelism and discipleship.  Some call this reaching the unchurched.  David Wells challenges us to “unchurch the reached.”  Contemplating his words, most of us ‘get it. ‘ We have seen believers move into their spot and seemingly stagnate, content with their spot of comfort.  If we’re honest, we’ve had seasons where we wished that for ourselves.

No Scripture supports that.  Parables challenge us to use our talents no matter how small to grow the Kingdom.

Neither evangelism or discipleship happens in safe cocoons of comfort.
