Veterans Day approaching
November 10, 2022
As Veterans Day approaches, I’m reminded that God values remembering the past. He instructed his people to mark their arrival in the promised land with stones. They were to erect monuments, not to worship, but to remind. George Washington was a veteran, though we remember him for being our first president. His monument in our capital is a landmark of freedom. Inscribed on the aluminum top 555 feet high are two words seen by few, and unknown to most: Laus Deo. Those Latin words mean simply, “Praise be to God.”
It’s appropriate to thank our veterans for their sacrifice so we can live free. It’s even more appropriate to thank God that He makes freedom available to all.
Whether in an oppressive place or free, each of us can thank God in our hearts.
