The truth will set us free

Do you ponder John 8: 32 and ask really? ‘Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.’ Paul spoke the truth and was imprisoned. So was John the Baptist.
So what is this freedom we have? A clear conscience. Scripture does not say ‘speak the truth when convenient, when acceptable to the listener. Rather speak in love.
Abraham Lincoln once noted that there was no venue to speak of slavery. Churches did not, government entities avoided it. Yet, he deemed it important for discussion and debate. Were the discussions welcomed. Not then, nor today.
I’m challenged to first know the truth by studying Scripture. And then embracing that representing it in word and deed is needed. A clear conscience for speaking God’s truth is freedom indeed.
