Selling to widows and orphans

Do you question whether today’s widows need protection as they did in Old Testament and New Testament days? Consider that recently a Goldman Sachs trader was convicted of defrauding investors in a subprime mortgage deal. He bragged leaving a country where he was selling his ‘wares’ stating, “I’ve managed to sell a few abacus bonds to widows and orphans that I ran into in the airport.”
Referring to those he knew were vulnerable and might have no back up protection, he rightly identified that we are vulnerable. Our greatest vulnerability is to affinity fraud. The huckster is a friend of a friend, or a relative, or states that they share our spiritual convictions.
While we need wise people around us, God himself declares He will be our Defender. That, my friend, is powerful protection.
