Recovering Volunteer 2
August 26, 2022
It’s been said that 80% of the volunteer work of the church is done by 20% of the members. Why so little volunteerism? The statistic answers the question. Those volunteers cannot sustain the load. Often they are doing a little of what they are gifted to do and lots of what must be done, but does not match them. Fatigue sets in, passion fades.
In our growing widow’s ministry, we have volunteers who say, “Yes, I’ll help organize. Just never put me in front.” Room reservations, invitations, keeping records, a leadership team has stepped up. And I’m free to teach, an assignment I love.
If you’re a recovering volunteer, sidelined by fatigue and disappointment, take inventory of God’s gifts to you, rest awhile, and offer to do what you love. That passion will return.
