Promise Keeping

I’ve decided to start my year by looking for heroes around me.  One friend comes to mind.  Her husband has not been able to care for himself for years.  He no longer recognizes her.  Yet she visits him daily, advocates for his good care, tenderly strokes his cheek, and keeps her promise:  “Until death do us part.”

She’s my hero.  And she is rare.  Yes, she has choices.  Divorce, not showing up, or total abandonment. Many would understand if she chose any of those options.  Certainly expectations in marriage are not happening and won’t.   But she’s a promise keeper.

I’m giving a shout out today to Promise Keeper, Carol. Look around you.   Do you see a hero?  Give them an encouraging word or smile.
