Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow

On the historic day that people received the news of peace at the end of WWI, a woman sang the great hymn, “Praise God from whom all blessings flow” in Times Square New York.  The war effort and women’s participation changed the perception of women in the sight of many.  Though it was decades before women could vote, many documents showed that their motivation was based on their Christian faith.  Whether serving as canteen girls in Europe or nurses in hospitals, they saw the horrors of war and served wherever they could.

One corporal described the impact of the YMCA and the canteen girl handing out cups of hot chocolate to the weary soldiers.  We were feeling kind of lost. Then we looked and saw the old flag and you.  After that it seemed just like home somehow.”
