Planting and harvesting

Growing up on a farm, we learned that planting was serious business.  Rows for seeds were raked until there were no clods.  Lettuce seeds were planted shallow.  Potato starts were planted deeper.  Lots of seeds looked similar.  Lettuce, radishes, spinach, and chard.  But harvest time revealed they were quite different.

Harvest time also revealed whether we had tended, weeded, and watered.  Galatians 6: 7-8 reminds us that our life is similar.  What do you want to be your life’s harvest?  Plan your garden accordingly.  When we chose to parent, we are committing to ‘tending.‘  When we chose to adopt children and become foster parents, we learn what additional ‘gardening’ skills we will need.

Starting a company, choosing a career.  Yes, beginnings are vital.  But the harvest reveals what was important.
