King David picked 30 people to be his leaders, protectors, the ones he could count on. And he did not pick all of them from ‘his’ people. Most were sons of Israelites. They are listed in I Chronicles 11. But there were exceptions. Uriah was a Hittite. Ithmah was a Moabite. Hittites and Moabites were known enemies of Israel. Uriah was loyal to David to his death. Ithmah was trusted.
David chose based on skill and loyalty, not obligation or relative status. Let’s learn from this. We all need wise advisors around us. I call this your Board of Directors. You listen to them. They are loyal and truthful. They have your back even in your hardest days. You need protection, wisdom. Pray and select carefully.
