My Sister’s Keeper
January 20, 2015
Am I my sister’s keeper? In God’s eyes, Yes. That’s why I travel to Africa again starting micro-economic projects with widows. How can I, as a widow, ignore ones who may need to sell their children, or themselves in order to eat. Corinthians 12 speaks of the body of Christ, “its parts should have equal concern for each other.” These are my sisters. If their plight does not tug at my heart, I have indeed grown cold or lukewarm and indifferent. Neither match my proclamation of faith.
So swallowing my malaria pill with toast, packing Widowconnection’s gifts of sewing supplies, I’ll be off to another airport, excited to travel to villages and slums I’ve never seen, meeting women who’ve faced more hardship in their short thirty-some years than I’ll ever face. Why, because we’re sisters.
