Motivation for gift giving

M Why do we give gifts this season? The biblical reason is to honor God’s gift of His son to us. Our human reasons fall quite short. Is it a comparison race: competition or appearance? While we hope not, it’s good to ponder our motivation.
Is it manipulation? Seldom do we talk about that. Gifts to draw someone to us in our loneliness, gifts after divorce to win favor.
V I Samuel 16: 7 tells us that people look at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. God’s gift was His love gift. A love gift meets their need and represents our care for them. A love gift does not demand something in return. Its freely given. That’s why we call it a gift.
