Memorial Day # 4

Today celebrating Memorial Day, here are 7 facts you might not have known.

  1. It was originally called Decoration Day.
  2. It was not always the last Monday of May
  3. Congress passed a law that at 3:00 pm all pause to remember the fallen. Few do.
  4. The first Memorial Day ceremony was in the Arlington National Cemetery.
  5. 9 states also celebrate Confederate Memorial Day
  6. Waterloo, New York claims to be the birth place of the holiday. So do several other towns.
  7. More than 36 million people will travel at least 50 miles for Memorial Day
