Leonard’s Bible

Some mornings I reach for Grandpa McCoy’s Bible for inspiration.  I imagine him, red beard and strong back in the coal mines of Kentucky.  He moved his little family to Indiana to be a railroad man.  An easier job, but still rugged.

One of the most marked up chapters in his Bible is I John 4, a chapter on love, love for God and love for brothers and sisters.  This defies the historical reputation of the McCoy’s, who back in the day were feuding with the Hatfields.  But God, through His word is a change agent.  The man I knew was a gentle soul.

Would you like to become more gentle, more compassionate, more forgiving?  I’d recommend I John 4, Grandpas favorite chapter.  Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
