James 1: 27
July 14, 2017
We are advised in James 1: 27 to keep ourselves from being polluted by the world. Interesting. That advise follows instruction to care for widows and orphans. Why? The world calls us to want more, to feel we have rights that aren’t being honored, to be dissatisfied with our lot in life.
Is that temptation drawing you? Get close to an orphan. No father, often inadequate provision or just getting by, a heart hurt by loss. Enter the life of a widow. Lonely, usually living on less, in most parts of the world exploited. Both have experienced the death of some dreams.
Step back in your world. Looks better, doesn’t it?
Yes, reaching out to those in loss prompts gratitude on our souls for God’s goodness to us.
