Early church and today

There are no new temptations in churches today. Paul’s letters show us that challenges in churches today are the same as those early years after Jesus had returned to heaven. A small crew of apostles were commissioned to carry His message to the ends of the earth.
Some embraced the message and taught it faithfully, like Timothy. Others taught it for their personal gain, popularity, profit, or both. Leaders today face the same temptation. The spot light is fickle, yet treacherous. To believe its your gift, your ability that is driving growth, not God’s is a sure path to pride and a downfall.
I’m reminded of the parable comparing the man who built his house on the sand and the one who built his house on the rock. Outside appearance? All is well. Troubles come, the wind blows. The foundation is revealed.
