Depletion
September 10, 2018
Climbing to the top of a canopy tower in the Amazon rain forest, I saw a Brazil nut tree that a few days before had been green. Today it was yellow. Why the quick color change? Lack of water meant the tree needed to save energy to survive. The color change was not a sign of death, but of efficiency in order to be able to be productive in the future.
We face those times of depletion. We can refuse to change and adapt. We can cling to what we think might work. If ignored, we can shrink and become unproductive. Better to adjust, even if we ‘look different’ for awhile in order to be renewed and ready to be productive in the future.
