David’s strange behavior

Most of us studying Scripture find some stories hard to wrap our minds around. Ii Samuel 23: 13—17. David hungered for the taste of his childhood well water in Bethlehem. That area was occupied by Philistines, giants who hated David. Three of David’s mighty men broke through them, and got a flask of water for David. David took it, said he couldn’t drink it and poured it out on the ground. A sacrifice to God. Why? Did not that insult his three loyal friends and warriors?
No so, says Pastor Colin Smith. He was stating, ‘don’t risk your lives for me. Risk your lives for God. David could not drink what could have cost the loss of these mighty warriors. David pointed to God, rather than quenching his personal thirst.
