Crossing rivers

Abraham Lincoln and his traveling friend were on a trip requiring them to ford many streams and rivers in Illinois.  They heard about the Fox River and its challenges and began to worry about its crossing.  Arriving in that area, a local told them all about how to get across it.  Then he said, ‘don’t cross it till you get there.’  How often we worry about tomorrow, what’s ahead.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Until you are at the river, don’t don’t become preoccupied or muddle over it or fear. Worrying about tomorrow doubles our anxieties and halves our pleasure and joy. We can’t embrace today.
