Credit cards and more

I’m Miriam  Neff-with STARTING OVER FINANCIALLY,-and I’m Valerie Neff Hogan, and we’re here to talk about money

M  We acknowledge today that every woman needs a credit card in her own name.  Never carry a balance.  Pay it all at the end of each month.  The resulting credit rating is useful in purchasing a home or a car, even considered in some job placements.

V  We have come a long way.  Before 1974 women could not take out a loan in their own name without a male cosigner.  Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974 barred creditors from denying people credit on the basis of their race, sex, and marital status (among other things). Given that most women are single today, this is an important part of our financial well being and accountability.
