Comparing

Why do we compare ourselves with others?  Height, wealth, whose following us and noticing us?  Comparing does not honor God.  He created us uniquely with different functions in life and in the body of Christ.

I watched birds in my yard comparing their wings and flight.  The hummingbird: tiny wings moving so rapidly they are a blur.  The great grey heron: large wings in slow motion.  The wren, the sparrow, the yellow finch.  God is shouting through his creation that diversity is beautiful.  Size, function, and speed match that bird’s purpose.  Hummingbirds feed from trumpet vines. Herons fish in the pond.

Let’s give thanks that God creates us uniquely.  Psalm 139. That person in the mirror, person in our family, our church, our neighborhood. Free to work, serve, and thrive in different ways.  For God’s glory, not ours.
