Black History Month # 2

Frederick Douglass is known as a great orator, writer and abolitionist.  He learned to read and write at the age of 12, He taught other slaves to read the New Testament. Teaching them to read was unprecedented, the New Testament as his text book, invaluable. He was nominated for vice president of the United States.  Little known today, respected in his day.

In his support of women’s rights, he argued that he could not accept the right to vote as a black man if women could not also claim that right. Genesis 5: 1 All humans made in God’s image.

A man ‘before his time’ in many ways, yet a man speaking for God’s original intention for all people from creation.
