4th of July # 2
July 3, 2018
4th of July celebrations tomorrow will not be joyful for everybody. It has special meaning to military families. Some have lost a family member. I listened to military widows and learned much. A common statement, “Don’t judge me!” Grief makes anyone feel crazy at times. Behavior and emotions are intense. The nature of their husbands death, their children and their needs, seldom can we understand.
Often they wish to be with their ‘military’ family more than others. They experience common comfort there. We can give them the gift of acceptance. Let them be where they are in their grief journey, connecting where they can. They may not be able to attend the family BBQ. The sound of fire crackers may be unbearable. Don’t judge, just accept.
