Choices of leaders.
March 1, 2022
The true character of a leader is revealed by the team he selects to be his close advisors. Jesus choices were diverse, and initially made little sense to those around him. He knew them, their future strengths and failures better than they knew themselves.
Lincoln, whose birthday we still celebrate, did not have that insight. But he had a profound self confidence that made him able to select his inner team that were all better educated, better known, and more experienced in public life than he.
Seemingly a team of rivals to undermine his leadership, he refused to be provoked by petty grievances, jealousy, or slights. Why? Lincoln was a Christ follower, reader of Scripture, a man of prayer. Regardless of our realm of influence, he’s a good example for us all.
