Erasing an image

Our nation is changing images, sponsors, monuments and more.  As  Christ followers, these are days for thoughtful dialogue and discernment.

Actions speak louder than words.  Our founding fathers acted and suffered.

We can remove their statues.  We cannot erase the results of their actions.  We can remove titles, not outcomes of behavior.  We speculate, but only God knows the intents of every person’s heart.

Nancy Green, born a slave, became Aunt Jemima and used her wealth to become a philanthropist, a leading advocate against poverty, and a fighter for equal rights.  Her name and picture can be removed from pancake mix boxes.  Those poor she helped gain equal rights were forever changed.

She worked until her death in 1923, at age 89, after becoming one of America’s first black millionaires.  This remarkable woman’s actions cannot be erased.
