Bob’s leadership # 5
March 16, 2021
I’ve been studying what successful leaders do. One I observed stated that a leader needs to provide settings in which there is freedom for people to express themselves openly without fear of retribution. He tried to provide an atmosphere where individuals would not feel intimidated, but rather free to express themselves.
One great benefit of open communication is accountability. We have watched the implosion of companies, charitable organizations, even churches who have not been transparent. People see, hear, and know. And know they cannot speak up fearing job loss, or a verbal beating.
While money mismanagement is one problem, time, energy and focus matter too. What is the goal of the organization? What are the outcomes desired? These open discussions keep us focused.
No retribution, a listening discerning ear. Humility to respond.
