Money and marriage

I’m Miriam  Neff-with STARTING OVER FINANCIALLY,-and I’m Valerie Neff Hogan, and we’re here to talk about money

M We hope that married couples this week are talking about finances and making good plans for 2019.  Its hard.  Two different people united. Conflict over finances is cited as a factor in 90 percent of divorcees.  Its common in couples staying together.

V  The best option:  Compromise.  Is argument and tension, felt by children also, worth that thing or experience you want?  Can you both flex on something?  Beginning with a small thing is at least a start.

Unilateral decisions by one person can happen.  But usually emotional distance that comes with that, a sense of alienation from that mutual desire to be one.  Financial council is available.  Classes through your church are a beginning.  Marriage counceling may be needed.

M  Doing financial decisions together is hard, consuming time and emotion.  Yes, but unity is precious
