Discontent

Discontent is a part of the human condition. Family, job, home, status in life, even ministry. To wish for different is human. Yet Christ followers are to be content with whatever their lot is in this life. The Apostle Paul was, even shivering in prison.
To be discontent is to dislike, even rebel against God’s sovereignty. Scripture warns us about being grumblers and shows us people whose life did not deliver what they might have wished. Haggar was obedient to God and yet had a violent, angry son. Naomi lost sight of God’s provision for her, God provided her a daughter-in-law for provision rather than husband and sons. Not Naomi’s plan.
Rather than looking around us, look God ward. That’s contentment.
