Our Country’s identity

What is the United States of America? Who are we? This question is at the heart of our foundation, our system of law, the underpinnings of our economy. Rather than look at our Constitution, lets look at what one Frenchman said in 1831. Alexis de Tocqueville, observing us stated, ‘The Americans combine the notions of Christianity and of liberty so intimately in their minds that it is impossible to make them conceive the one without the other.”
And why not? Why else should people be free, unless they were created equal with the capacity to think for themselves, produce and work for their livelihoods, make collective decisions for the common good, not just the good of the powerful and wealthy.
A country embracing freedom? Impossible without God.
