Important vetting questions for financial advisor

M  I’m Miriam  Neff-with STARTING OVER FINANCIALLY,-and I’m Valerie Neff Hogan, and we’re here to talk about money

M Life’s changes often mean getting a financial advisor.  Interviewing them to know what services they offer, the minimum amount of funds required in a client, and their fee structure.

V What products do they offer, and at what fee?  Do a background check based on what type of advisor they are.  At the website: letsmakeaplan.org  get confirmation on whether they have the CFP (Certified Financial Planner designation). If they are a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA)  get information at Investor.gov.  With that site, also check a company and advisor firm by looking at Form ADV and Part 2 brochures.

For brokers  use brokercheck.finra.org

M You might meet a few advisors before you find a match.  This is time well spent.
