Today celebrating Memorial Day, here are 7 facts you might not have known.
- It was originally called Decoration Day.
- It was not always the last Monday of May
- Congress passed a law that at 3:00 pm all pause to remember the fallen. Few do.
- The first Memorial Day ceremony was in the Arlington National Cemetery.
- 9 states also celebrate Confederate Memorial Day
- Waterloo, New York claims to be the birth place of the holiday. So do several other towns.
- More than 36 million people will travel at least 50 miles for Memorial Day
