Why Play The Game
August 29, 2024
August brings athletes back on hot fields as school starts. My grandsons perspired buckets, some preparing for football and others soccer. Why do they play the game? For the love of running, moving that ball, the sheer competition of facing off against the opponent.
Scripture often compares our life as believers to athletic events like races and wrestling. A consistent walk of faith is definitely a challenge. Or so I have discovered in my life. So why do it? There are few celebrations of victory on this earth, little applause, and sometimes little evidence of yards gained.
For us as believers, it’s not about the game. It’s about the coach. I want Jesus, my life coach, to extend his words of approval when it’s all over.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Welcome home.
