Why Be Pruned

The biblical example of pruning is important. It maintains or improves plant health.  Grape vines are pruned so that sunlight gets to the fruit.  Pruning cuts off growth in one direction to flourish elsewhere.  In John 15 Jesus tells his followers that He is the vine and God is the gardener who cuts off branches that don’t bear fruit.  He says that branches accomplish nothing if detached. Verse 2, “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”

Life contains painful pruning.  People leave, we lose something we value.  We don’t understand it.  Cling to the vine, Jesus, and trust our Gardner.  God loves us and is creating something better in our lives.
