Vulnerable worship
August 21, 2018
Worship often moves us to lift our hands heavenward. Psalm 141: 2 May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.” Why is lifting up our hands be evidence of sacrifice? Because that’s a vulnerable position.
Competitive sports positions are never people facing each other with arms uplifted. Wrestlers crouch, elbows in. Football and rugby, shoulders down and forward. Often one knee down, a foot back ready to spring.
To lift our hands before God is to trust Him in our vulnerable position.
We’re trusting that He wants to lift us up, not take us down. He is our God. We trust Him. And He does! He sees our dependence, our confidence, our recognition of His love for us.
