Still

Septembers tired leaves on my walnut tree are still.  No movement, stationary. This is rare.  Gentle winds to tearing ones whip them regularly.  Still feels good.  In life as well as nature.  Peace, quiet, no drama.

But neither walnut trees or humans grow strong in new ways on days that are still.  Winds increase the tenacity of leaves, flexibility of branches, and strength of trunks.

Life’s challenges, even the tough unwanted and unexpected ones present us that golden opportunity to grow strong.

My own upheavals in life have taught me that our culture’s fixation on strength through independence and sheer grit is misleading.

I embraced the reality that I had neither the strength or wisdom to prevail through crisis.  Only my Creator did.  So I embraced Him tighter than ever before.
