Staying Connected Through Change

Research indicates that widows who have strong networks fare better than those who are disconnected.  We know many abandon her, typically 75% of her friendship network.  The same is true for others who experience changes in their lives:  divorce and job loss to name a few.

The first step is to acknowledge that people leave when loss occurs.    The sting of rejection is less given the reality that the departures say more about those who leave than about you.  Rather than pursuing them, use your tiny reserve of energy to strengthen connections with those who remain. This network will be precious and strong in the days ahead.

You may feel you don’t have that wee bit of energy to reach out.  Just know staying connected brings strength.
