Saul 2

King Saul is a character of interest in the Old Testament.  Leaders today would do well to learn from his strengths and mistakes.  Shortly after Saul was proclaimed King of Israel some scoundrels dissed him.  I Samuel 10: 27.  They gave him no gifts, or respect.  “But Saul kept silent.”

He did not diss them back, seek revenge, which he could have done, or kill them as some of his followers suggested.  Leaving judgement to the Lord was a good thing then, and a good thing today.

He kept doing everyday tasks though a king.  I Samuel 11: 5. He heard bad news that had come to his people when he returned from his fields behind his oxen.  Leaders do well to not elevate themselves above ordinary tasks losing touch with people.  Saul started well.
