Project – Off the Streets

Four ‘street girls’ in Accra, Ghana sat with us and told us their stories. Why they became prostitutes and their life today in a training program that truly rescues them and empowers them to have a new life. They spoke of past shame and current pride.
As I listened to their stories, 3 of the 4 entered that turbulent phrase ‘when their Dad died’; and that ultimately led to their lives as prostitutes. Dad’s death or disappearance resulted in their widowed Mom’s inability to care for these girls.
This shocked realization crystalized my motivation to increase our efforts to come along side widows, empower and train them, reassure them of God’s love in concrete ways. One reason being that their daughters never need become street girls.
