It’s popular for politicians to promise safety, prosperity, and opportunity. In reality, no matter how powerful politicians are, they can’t deliver on any of those. Safely is not just about armies; it’s about hurricanes and tsunamis. Prosperity is not just about jobs and income, it’s about health, common sense, and contentment. Opportunity? fragile and fleeting.
As Christians we sometimes mistakenly believe God will give us those on this earth. Psalm 73 and 75 are clear that this earth doesn’t get it right. His promise for each of us is only guaranteed in heaven, our real nation, not earth. Here we’re sojourners and strangers. Good news, my friend. Revelation 21 gives us a glimpse of what our real nation will be like: safe, prosperous, productive. Read it and rejoice.
