Please Be Flexible
November 25, 2024
As Thanksgiving Day approaches, death has touched many families and this day will be different. There will be one million new widows this year, average age 58, young and adult children will dread that empty chair.
Please be patient with us. Please don’t say you understand. No one has walked in that child’s shoes, that widow or widower’s shoes. Do say, I care about you, I’m thinking about you this year with loss. We may need space. One of my children did not join us but served in a shelter that day serving meals. Time brings changes and traditions may continue later.
Do speak of that person who is absent. They are on our minds and not forgotten. It’s a good season to practice patience, and give grace as each grieves in different ways.
