In a speech given recently in the United Nations, these facts were stated. ‘Many people of different faiths are being jailed, sanctioned, tortured, and even murdered—often at the hands of their own government—simply for expressing their deeply held religious beliefs.” Approximately 80% of the world’s population live in countries where religious liberty is threatened, restricted, or even banned.” Almost 250 million Christians around the world are persecuted for their faith. It is estimated that 11 Christians are killed every day for following — just think of this, 11 Christians a day— for following the teachings of Christ.
While we do not welcome persecution here, its fruit is fervent faith, and real anticipation of Heaven. Let us hunger for that even with our freedoms.
