Mother’s Day/Mary
May 11, 2023
As Mother’s day approaches we plan celebrations. Some with joy, some with dread. Will everyone get along, even remember. While I’m thankful we mark this important role, I’m quite aware that this day has its challenges.
I remember Mary the mother of Jesus. Her life was marked by seemingly an untimely pregnancy, simple, not sumptuous living, children who had VERY different goals and interests in life, becoming a young widow, and the terrible death of her firstborn son.
What examples did she set? She watched and pondered things in her heart–thoughtful, patient. She accepted–God’s assignments, sweet and bitter. She let go–ever embracing her son in her mother love, she released Him to follow the calling of His Father.
My goal on this day? Watch and ponder with patience, accept, and let go.
