Mary, Mother of Jesus # 4
September 19, 2019
Mary, the mother of Jesus was a widow. We don’t remember her as that, rightly so. She was the mother of Jesus. Blessed, probably poor, and widowed before Jesus adulthood. As Jesus grew and revealed who he was, her other sons rejected his claims, probably causing dissension between siblings that broke her heart. I wonder what words of his she remembered most? He remembered her in his greatest agony and dying moment hanging on the cross.
26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. Ever the loving son, providing for his mother.
