Lesson from Naomi and Ruth

Naomi and Ruth embarked on a dangerous hike.  Their story is in the Book of Ruth.  A four-day journey from Ruth’s homeland in Moab to Bethlehem in Israel, Naomi’s homeland, two widows traveled plains, forged water, hiked to high plateau.  They hoped for a better life.  Hope only, no promise.

Here’s what I learned from them.  Danger and difficulty don’t equal fear and discouragement.  Ruth was leaving family, tradition, familiar food, pagan practices, all she ever knew. Naomi was returning after years away.  Would she be welcomed, even recognized.

Much is made of the story of Ruth’s marriage to Boaz and bearing a son in Christ’s lineage.  Most memorable moment to me was when on the journey, she decided to embrace Naomi’s true God.  Conversion story on the road to Bethlehem.
