Our national conversation on criminal sentencing reform is rising. A good thing. Our incarceration is the highest rate of any developed country. There is little hope for changed behavior in our present prison experience. In fact, the experience is destructive, and the conviction prevents meaningful work, even any work in some fields after the crime has been paid for.
Scripture refers to justice 130 times and describes what it looks like and what happens when it is twisted, turned, and misused.
Micah 6:8 The Lord has shown you what is good. He has told you what he requires of you. You must act with justice. You must love to show mercy. And you must be humble as you live in the sight of your God.
Many of our laws reflect none of God’s direction. May our discussion and changes be biblically based.
