Have changes in your life drawn you to Scripture with fresh questions for God? It’s true for me as a widow. 103 Scriptures referring to widows tell me that I’m loved, and much more. James 1:27 tells us pure religion in God’s eyes is to look after orphans and widows. Why? Because doing go is good, and an outward demonstration of our faith.
Here’s a thought. Many outward demonstrations bring attention and pats on the back to the doer. Widows and orphans are typically voiceless and unable to ‘give back’ in response to your care for them. It’s really that act–the Christian we are when no one else will see or know– that defines the purity of our faith. No payback, no glamor, no applause, just pure religion. That, my friend, is a high standard for faith.
