Inheritance, wills and trusts

M We state that Christ followers need a will and possibly a trust to direct what they leave behind to those they love. Does Scripture support this?  Yes.  Old Testament directives provided paths for inheritance.  Typically sons inherited their father’s property while their father was still alive.

V That Dad could train them and help oversee their ownership of the land.  Today, inheritances might be passed on to those with little wisdom on portfolios, stewarding a lump sum of money, and little financial literacy.

M Inheritance was sticky in biblical times.  Consider Jacob and Esau, and Rachel and Leah.  Not fun reading.  What we can do is acknowledge its all God’s. Watch those we are considering. We are to direct it wisely.
