Independence Day
July 1, 2024
As a youngster, the 4th of July meant marching in our small-town parade with my trumpet followed by a picnic in our country church yard. Hot fun, fried chicken, few cares and little understanding of true freedom.
Since then, I’ve traveled the world, seen my husband in uniform, walked through Arlington Cemetery, the slave castles in Ghana, and looked down on the streets of Kluj, Romania where dying bodies once lay. I’ve walked the bridge in Selma, Alabama, and seen the captivity of poverty and crime.
Independence is rare on this planet, and when enjoyed has been paid for with a high price. Our faith in God and His Son Jesus is our true source of freedom. Living for them means promoting freedom here for all.
