Help That Counts

Who do you turn to when bad things happen?  To someone who knows trouble.  Someone who has weathered a similar storm, who has more than survived.  Someone resilient.  These folks typically have life worn faces, wrinkles, deep compassion in their eyes.  How did they earn that character?  The smooth beautiful urn of their life cracked.  And light entered.  Understanding, insight, caring.

As a counselor in a large public high school, I didn’t easily relate to parents whose teen had run away.  Until Bob and I had that experience.  Then, when those bleary eyed, sleep deprived parents entered my office, I greeted them with an understanding hug, a cup of coffee–and then we talked.

Don’t hesitate to ask for help.  These folks want to reach out.  You’ll get reality-based advice–and understanding.
